Quiet nights on the bank of the Wye

We're a working family farm six miles from Hay-on-Wye. Bell tents in their own private meadow, a restored railway wagon, and camping pitches where the field runs down to the water. The bell tent meadow is kept for over-18s; children are welcome everywhere else. No dogs, and nothing amplified after ten — that's what keeps it peaceful.

Everything sits on our own hundred acres, on the south bank. Pitches are allocated when you arrive, so tell us what you're hoping for and we'll do our best.

The river

A basecamp for the Wye, not just a view of it

Paddlers use us as the first night out of Glasbury or Hay, or as a base for a two or three day trip. Launching, landing and recovery are free if you're staying — drive down to the water, unload, and we'll keep an eye on your boat.

No fishing from the site. The bank is an S.S.S.I. — please leave the plants and the stones where they are.

Round about

Books, hills and a hundred acres of quiet

Hay-on-Wye Six miles. Second-hand bookshops, the festival in May, and somewhere decent for supper.
Wye Valley Walk You can join it from the farm. Yvonne will show you which gate to use.
Herefordshire Trail A long day's walking in either direction, straight off the lane.
Brecon Beacons Half an hour west if you want a proper hill under you.

Wildlife & the S.S.S.I.

Swans, kingfishers, otters if you're up early and patient. The banks here are protected by law, which is why we ask you not to gather wood, move stones or cut back the plants. It's also why the place still looks like this.

Finding us

About the lanes, before you set off

The lane from Clifford village and Priory Wood is narrow and single-track. There are ramblers, dog walkers and horse riders on it. Note the passing places as you go, and be ready to reverse to the last one. It's just over a mile from the village — at a sedate 20mph that's five minutes.

Then you come through the working farm. Please shut every gate behind you, keep out of the buildings and the crops, and give the livestock room.
